Can the Stinger GT outrun a Mustang GT?
There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the 2018 Kia Stinger GT – and for a very good reason. The automaker took the time to precisely engineer the light and nimble sports coupe to be a direct competitor of models from Europe, but with a significantly lower starting price. The Spitzer Kia of Mansfield Blog has already shared with you a video of the all-new Stinger GT going up against models from BMW and Porsche, with the high-performance Kia vehicle all but decimating the competition. But what about some vintage American muscle? Is the 2018 Kia Stinger GT faster than the Mustang GT? Yes. Yes, it is.
Stinger GT quarter-mile time
An automotive outlet called, Motoring Australia, did a head-to-head test of the 2018 Kia Stinger GT versus a Ford Mustang GT. Naturally, one of the most dramatic portions of the available video (posted below) shows the two sports cars facing off in a quarter-mile showdown. First, let’s take a look at the bona fides of each car. The version of the Ford Mustang GT tested in the video uses the pony car’s famous 5.0-liter, V-8 with a claimed output of 435 horsepower. Under the hood of the 2018 Stinger GT sits the new twin-turbocharged, 3.3-liter, V-6 which makes just more than 360 horsepower. Given the clear disparity on paper, this competition should be over before it starts, right? Wrong.
The Mustang in the video ran the quarter-mile in 13.32 seconds. That is a very respectable time. But how did the 2018 Stinger GT fare? Well, the driver behind the wheel of the 2018 Stinger was able to post a time of 12.83 seconds. That is an impressive result, no matter what badge a car is wearing.
